Hope #2

A moment brought to me by a stranger as I was on the train into London for work.

I was on the train and must have looked tired, well more than tired. I was battling through Teams messages—crazy ones from my bosses—with ridiculous requests. My daughter had called, saying she was having flashbacks and then the school called, asking where she was, why she had left before the school day even started.

I was really in my own world—more than usual, which isn’t like me, I wasn’t aware of anyone around me.

I got off the train, and as I was walking to the ticket barrier, someone tapped me on the shoulder. He looked like a dishy young Idris Elba, I thought he was going to tell me I had dropped something - but he said, very softly, “Just remember, this moment will pass. You’re doing amazingly. Just keep going.”

He said it in such a soft voice, and with such kindness. Then he just… disappeared and then melted into the crowd.

It was really beautiful. I watched him go, and he scampered like the fawn in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe—the way he moved, the quiet magic of it. He just disappeared.

I’ve never really thought about angels existing in physical form, but recently I watched Wings of Desire (It’s a lovely film I would recommend it) and I think he might have been just that.

He was an angel. And I held onto that moment. It got me through the day, even though I was starting to spiral into a ‘just run away’ mode temporarily.
