The Practical Mermaid

A Mermaid not a MOSAC (Mother of Sexually Abused Children).

We are Mermaids not MOSACs.

When 7 years ago I was told by the NSPCC to look at the MOSAC website as I fell into the new world of ‘mother of sexually abused children’ I was met with promises of anger that would turn into auto-immune disease and a lifetime of despair - and that was just me.

My hope is that my blog will be read by others who unexpectedly find themselves in the same, terrifying world I entered. A day doesn’t go by when the abuse doesn’t touch us in some way, but it doesn’t and won’t define us.

It is bloody tough, I’ve dug into depths I didn’t think I could, but there is hope.

It’s important to say, I am certainly not against MOSAC and all the work they do, but in all things, we need alternatives, different voices to guide us xoxo.

Why Mermaids?

Mermaids symbolise the journey of self discovery and the transformative power we have within us to grow and evolve.

From Greek mythology to the present, Mermaids have also been depicted as strong, with a deep sense of intuition they have the capacity to change and morph to the challenges they face but always with grace and ease.

And for my daughters, Mako Mermaids have been a perennial favourite.
